This is an effective bird repeller but may not be the best option for you, based on where you live and where you would like to use it. In some rural locations it would be ideal, such as in an orchard. It does have two operating modes that are useful but I wish that it offered a third mode as well to really make it work well for me without turning on and off. This device keeps birds, bats, rats, etc. away with the use of PIR (Passive Infrared) Sensor so it is safe for humans and animals and ecofriendly because it doesn’t harm those unwanted pests- just scared them away. The PIR is triggered by motion activation and uses sounds and lights to scare off the birds/bats. This device requires 4 AA batteries, and even if you have it constantly in the on position, it is only operating when it is motion activated so you are not constantly draining those batteries. 2 Operating Modes:
1. Day Mode: During daylight hours it emits just the sound when activated. At night time it will automatically adjust to set off sound and lights simultaneously
2. Night Mode: During daylight hours it will use the sound when triggered and at night time it will only put off the lights, without sound.
I think that this product would be greatly improved if it had a lights only mode in addition to these two. Here is why this product is a bit limited as far as when and where you could use it: The sound that is sets off is gun shorts. I was hoping to use this to deter some birds from perching/nesting in my tree above my children’s playground in the backyard. They just sit there and poop all over the slide and swings and it is pretty disgusting and unsanitary. This isn’t a good option because anytime a bird flies by, gun shots sound. That’s fine because it scares off the birds- but not fine because it scares my kids playing and may alarm my neighbors on the other side of the fence. (I knew these things going into it when reading the product description but was hoping that I could use lights during early morning and dusk and the modes don’t really allow me to do that without gunshots sometimes.) If you had a large property though or an orchard that you wanted to protect from eating birds, this would be a perfect product. Your intention and location for use will determine how great and useful this is for you. I don’t want to run this all the time during daylight hours in my yard, because that loud gunshot noise may not be appreciated early in the morning, etc. But this could still be useful to keep bats away from my porch. In my neighborhood there are a lot of tall porch/entryways and most people have trouble with bats up in those rafters. The flashing lights at night are affective to keep them away. This is the reason that I wish there was a light only mode- if you place this out on your front porch area on night mode, it will only trip the lights when there is motion, but there is a chance during the day that people walking onto your porch will set off the gun sounds. (That’s a problem!) Yes, I can still use this on night mode and it is soundless at night, but I need to turn it off during the day so that motion doesn’t set off the shooting. I could also try to position this so that the motion sensor only faces a high area and isn’t set off by people walking below on the porch, but then a bird or blowing leaf or something could still set it off during the day. There is no way around it- for me I have to physically turn it off in daylight hours and turn it back on at night. This product is great and has a lot of potential but if it had that lights only mode it would make it so much more user friendly for any location.
